We had some excitement at Charlson Meadows

During this stretch of frigid temperatures, a pipe connected to our sprinkler system burst, setting off a blaring alarm at 3:45 a.m. and sending water where it most certainly did not belong.

The impact moved downward. First, water hit the Gathering Room, then the Living Room below, and eventually the water made its way to the basement. We are deeply grateful to the Victoria Fire Department for their quick response. They stepped into action pushing water out the sliding glass doors on the top two levels. These rooms filled with clouds as the cold air rushed into the house.

Ironically, we had guests on-site for our Fill Your Cup retreat. While this wasn’t quite the kind of “overflow” we had planned, the event has earned a new nickname: The Fill Your Bucket Retreat. Those gracious guests, who were jarred out of their sleep, stepped in to help remove some art, furniture and even the piano, as the water was coming in.

Since then, our team has been working steadily to begin the recovery process. The restoration company is at work. The insurance adjuster and general contractor will assess the full extent of the damage and establish a reconstruction timeline. We expect to have more clarity in the coming week.

While this was not a moment we anticipated, we are thankful for quick action, and the helpful hands that helped preserve what we could. All of us at Charlson Meadows are committed to caring  for this beautiful place and all who gather here.

Thank you for your kind words and support.
