Hope in the Quiet

As the year comes to a close, many of us find ourselves in the in-between. The rush of the holidays may surround us, yet there are quieter moments like early mornings, long evenings, and pauses between gatherings. This season asks a lot of us, but it also offers small pockets of rest if we’re looking for them.

Rest doesn’t always look like an early bedtime; sometimes it looks like breathing deeply, saying no, or getting lost in a creative project. Nature models this kind of rest so faithfully. Trees stand bare, not because life is gone, but because it has moved inward. Beneath frozen ground, roots are holding steady. Nothing is rushed or forced. The quiet is not empty—it is doing important work.

Hope, in this season, can come softly in a warm mug held between your hands, in a shared memory, or in a moment of laughter that surprises you. As this year ends, may you give yourself permission to rest. May you trust that even in the quiet, something good is taking shape—and that hope is always near.
