Living with a Generous Heart
A Sprinkle of Generosity
Every flower carries within it the possibility of more. At Charlson Meadows, the flower beds in the Giving Garden begin with only a few tablespoons of seeds scattered into soil. From those tiny beginnings, the garden grows full of hydrangeas, lisianthus, zinnias, dahlias, and many other glorious blooms. What begins as a humble sprinkling becomes an extravagant display of color.
Beyond What We Can See
Throughout the season, our staff and volunteers tend the garden, gather the flowers, and arrange them into bouquets for the Nancy Nelson Lake House. Then the extras are shared with area food shelves and senior care facilities carrying the beauty of the garden beyond our gate.
Beauty Multiplied
A bouquet offers a simple delight. It’s a little gift of beauty quietly contained in a jar. It may soften a difficult day, lift someone’s spirit, or simply remind a person that they are remembered. With generosity we release the outcome and trust that goodness continues working beyond our view.
This is the remarkable nature of generosity: it carries seeds within it. What begins as one small offering can take root in places we may never see, multiplying beauty, kindness, and hope.
Take it to Heart:
- What small seed of generosity could you scatter today? Offer it freely, then trust that even the smallest kindness may grow far beyond what you can imagine.
- Breath practice: Focus on this phrase as you take deep, intentional breaths: I choose to live with a generous heart.
- Journaling prompt: Where have you seen generosity recently? Recount the action or event with details. Then brainstorm 3 new ideas for extending generosity to others.
