Hospitality Inside and Out!

As you have come to expect from Charlson Meadows, we love to show gracious hospitality. This can be seen in our gardens too. With a goal to coexist with the creatures who make their home here, we’ve welcomed bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, mice, deer, and a hungry woodchuck that enjoyed a large bite of each and every beet! Renee, our Resident Caretaker, brought her experience and eye for beauty to our gardens during her first summer with us. She led the team in growing a productive crop while using sustainable gardening practices. Curt, Jim, Trevor, and Kim all lent a hand with moving compost, planting, weeding through to harvest. Dahlias and zinnias incorporated at the entrance make a visit to the vegetable garden even more delightful. The cutting garden got an upgrade with rocks from the original Lake House fireplace, a new trellis, and benches. Renee brings the outdoors in with bouquets incorporating greens and herbs found throughout the land to add a wonderful welcome for guests at the Nancy Nelson Lake House. Sharing the Harvest Over the summer, we have donated over 872lbs of produce to four local food shelves-and the pumpkins and squash are still on the vine! The crops included berries, lettuces, tomatoes, beans, cucumbers, cabbage, potatoes, peppers, kohlrabi, and much, much, more! Did you know that we have chickens, honey bees, and tap our maple trees for syrup? In the future, we will be adding a variety of fruit trees. This is just another way we are using our resources to invest in our local community. |
